At Super Carwash Detailing we specialize in upholstery cleaning. We clean carpets and mats using a cyclo brush shampoo system with a powerful drum vacuum, that has 10 times the suction of a regular shop vacuum. Our process is ideal for the removal of all types of salt stains.
Salt stains form when snow from parking lots fall on the carpets and mats. Parking lots in Southern Ontario use a lot of salt, so that whenever snow tracks into the vehicle a salt stain forms when it melts. Mostly, these salt stains form on the driver’s side mat and floor area as that is the highest traffic area in the vehicle. Even when vehicles have Weather Tech mats or other form fitted weather mats, a salt stain forms where the melted snow and salt roll off the mat.
Although Salt dissolves in water it is extremely difficult to remove automotive carpet salt stains. Each time a salt stain is created the surface of the salt crystallizes making it impermeable to water. Each successive layer creates yet another barrier, just like sedimentary rock. If you apply water to an automotive carpet salt stain a small thin layer on the surface dissolves but the rest below remains unchanged.
We use a special chemical designed to penetrate and dissolve salt stains. This chemical is applied and the salt stain is mechanically broken down using our cyclo brush system. The process is repeated multiple times until the salt stain is completely removed.
There are some scenarios where salt stains may not be completely removed. There may be vehicles where the salt stains have been left for so long that there are indentations in the carpet that remain and are still visible post cleaning, these may go away with time. Also, salt stains may form in areas where it is impossible to apply salt stain removing chemicals, such as where the vehicle has form fitted mats that funnel all the salt under the seat and on top of delicate electronic components, or vehicles that have floor mounted electronic accelerator pedals.
